Need for Pest management

What is IPCA

Indian Pest Control Association (IPCA) is a non-profit trade association of professional pest control companies. It was founded in 1967 and is the premier association of the professional pest control industry, with more than 200 members from the leading pest control enterprises in India.

IPCA is registered under The Societies Registration Act, 1960 (Act XXI of 1860) and is recognized by various Government bodies. Over the years, it has been the official voice of the Indian pest control industry, being closely associated with concerned Government Departments and Committees for policy-making and standards. IPCA also represents the country on various pest management associations worldwide.

IPCA organizes an annual convention which provides an ideal platform for the country’s premier pest control professionals, product & equipment manufacturers, researchers and representatives of Govt. Departments to meet and interact on various issues concerning the industry.

Apart from this IPCA also organises and conducts industry-wide training programmes on new technologies, chemistries and equipment together with their manufacturers, as well as soft skills on customer focus and professionalism; all this relating directly to the quality of consumer service.

Need for Pest management

The prevalence of diseases such as malaria, dengue and leptospirosis is on the increase. The control of pests causing these diseases, such as mosquitoes and rats, is commonly assumed to be an impossible task. State government efforts, though laudable, may not prove adequate due to constraints of finance, labour and logistics.

In response to this situation, IPCA, with the assistance of its members, has endeavoured to reach out to NGOs, municipal authorities and the public at large, to conduct coordinated campaigns in various cities nationwide. The objective has been to prove that control measures for such pests can be done effectively and economically. This would also enhance awareness amongst all about health issues caused by pests and their solutions.

IPCA has been at the forefront of publicizing the critical role that pest control companies play in the positive growth of the economy and health of the nation. For example, export, especially of agri-commodities, would not be possible without fumigation of such consignments. Pest management services are a necessity in homes, offices, factories etc. today.

Certification according to the latest international standards for food safety & hygiene are not possible without the highest standards of pest management. Apart from exports, the domestic market as well demands service in accordance with more stringent regulations on safety and least environmental impact.

In the current scenario, it is difficult for the general public to ascertain the quality of such services provided: utilizing the services of an IPCA member is recommended for such an assurance.
